Back To School

So having spent some time talking to people in the know and reading through various websites, I’ve chosen the modules I want to do and am commencing the course from Monday.

Not counting the professional training courses, since most of those were practical computer based workshops, I’ve not really studied since University. Two of the modules are e-learning which will mean self motivation on my part. If you spot me procrastinating, do give me a firm shove please!

My fiance won’t like it, but I’m going to spend some more time this weekend reading through the Business Analysis book. Interesting so far and a lot of stuff I read I can relate back to previous roles.

I haven’t completly written off development yet, but I’ve been wanting to get some qualifications for a while and I think this will give me a clearer picture of what I want to do.

That and I love learning!

I’m Still Alive

I suppose those of you with sharp eyes and a good memory may have noticed I have failed to sustain the weekly blogging promise I initially made.

I’ve unexpectantly experienced a change in work circumstance that I will not go into for numerous reasons but I’ve been taking some time out to recuperate and consider my future options.

Having had an interest in it for some time, I am going to put my money where my mouth is and begin a diploma in Business Analysis. Am waiting to hear when I can start but I will be focusing on completing that before looking for a new job.

Professional, constructive advice would be appreciated. Wish me luck!

Vlog: Testing, Testing

In my effort to make my shiny new look site a bit more mixed media, I might introduce Vlogs as a way to ‘spice things up’. Constructive criticism welcome but if you’re going to be rude, at least make it witty: I have no issue with censorship on my own turf ;)

On YouTube for now because I guess filling my hosts space with video files, without telling him, might be a touch impolite.

O2: Oh heck more like it

My Twitter feed was alight this morning with the security issues that have been revealed over O2, apparantly, sending the number of the mobile it is requesting from to the websites it is sending a request too.

Rather then repeat the story, you can read more about this in an article at CNET.

Needless to say, as an O2 customer with a smartphone that I use to browse the web everyday, I am a little bit cross. Other providers don’t feel the need to do this. I think I am lucky to have not been spammed. I don’t even like my friends giving out my number without permission!

I’ve also just renewed my contract with them. But since the alternative would have been GiffGaff, who operate on O2 networks and are exposed to the same issue, I probably would still be whinging about it anyway.

First Post Nonsense

Ok you got me, it’a techinically the second post but second only to the default post that comes with WordPress.

That’s right, I’m using WordPress. It makes it much simpler for me to update from many devices and after 5 odd years of working with CMSs, why the hell should I not have one myself.

The second attraction is that it’s been very quick and simple to set up and the purple horror that has been on the internet since *thinks* 2006 really needed to go.

Things I am hoping to get done:

  • Creating a portfolio section
  • Creating my own theme. This one is very nice, but I feel I have cheated somewhat, especially considering what I do for a living
  • Blog at least once a week on things that are technically relevant. I enjoy blogging and it’s a great incentive for me to keep my head in the present. Or future even.
